Nutravita supports the MND Association

Nutravita supporting the MNDA

We are happy to announce that we are supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association. To kick-start this charitable relationship, we are commencing a Motor Neurone Disease (MND) awareness month.

For the month of February 2019, 99p of every website order will be donated to the MND Association.

MND is a terminal, rapidly progressing neurological condition affecting up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time. The disease gradually prevents messages from nerves (motor neurones) in the brain and spinal cord, that control movement, reaching the muscles, leading them to weaken, stiffen and waste.

The symptoms of MND are highly distressing. The result is that people become trapped in their failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe. Over time, treatments like a feeding tube or breathing air through a mask may be needed.

Some may experience changes in thinking and behaviour, with a some experiencing a rare form of dementia. MND kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis. It affects all communities, with a person’s lifetime risk of developing MND around 1 in 300. Today six people will be diagnosed and six will die from MND. This disease is currently incurable.

The MND Association was founded in 1979, and is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland focused on improving care, research and campaigning. There are over 9,000 members forming a powerful network that provides information and support for people with MND, their families and carers. The MND Association fund and promote research that leads to new understanding and treatments, and brings us closer to a cure.

The Association supports approximately 3500 people through the MND Care and Research Centre Network developed in partnership with the NHS. Care grants, equipment loans, education and information requests are also provided. The charity also allows carers and families to meet other members of the MND community and access vital information. Furthermore, they campaign and raise awareness so the needs of people with MND are recognised and addressed by wider society. Overall, people with MND, their families and carers are at the heart of everything they do.

This charity is extremely important to us as a company. Recently, we have been contacted by a few people who have been suffering with the devastating impact of this disease. They had been using our supplements and were noticing some improvements in their symptoms. This was particularly striking and uplifting for us, as we understand how the diagnosis and symptoms of MND are very frightening and alienating. Being a disease that is uncommon and not spoken about regularly, it is important for us to support such a cause.

Here’s what a donation can do:

  • £10 will provide a person with an MND guide, helping them to better understand the disease
  • £80 can buy software to allow someone with MND to bank their own voice
  • £100 funds lab equipment for 2 days of vital research into finding the causes of this disease
  • £500 can go towards the cost of a ceiling hoist to help someone continue to live in their own home
